The First Step to Optimal Health
Eye exams are a crucial component of supporting, not only your vision and eye health, but your overall health as well. Throughout your life, your eyes are constantly changing, and regular eye exams help our optometrists assess these changes.
During an eye exam, we’ll do a complete evaluation of your eye health and use advanced diagnostic equipment to track early signs of eye disease. In most cases, early detection of these issues is key to preventing more serious symptoms and health effects down the road.
Regular eye exams are also a chance to update your prescription, discuss alternative treatment options, and learn more about your eye health.
How Often Should You Get an Eye Exam?
At Family Vision Center, we recommend following the American Optometric Association’s exam schedule, which outlines:
- Adults aged 18–64 should have an eye exam every 2 years
- Adults aged 65+ should have an eye exam every year
While we follow the above exam schedule, we know that no two patients are the same. For people with additional needs, diabetes, or a family history of eye disease, we may recommend more frequent eye exams.

Eye Exams at Family Vision Center
When you visit our practice for an eye exam, you’ll be greeted by our lovely staff the second you walk in the door. After answering any questions you may have and getting you checked in, one of our staff members will direct you to our pretesting area.
Pretesting
During pretesting, we’ll take a few measurements and ask some questions to get to know you and your lifestyle better. This information helps us tailor the rest of the exam process to your needs.
The Eye Exam
After pretesting, you’re ready for your exam. During your comprehensive eye exam, one of our optometrists will use advanced diagnostic technology to check your eyes for any potential signs of eye disorders or diseases. They will also perform multiple tests to evaluate your visual skills.
After Your Exam
After your exam, your optometrists will discuss the results of your exam and can prescribe a number of treatment options to help you see better and feel better.
