Here to Support Your Child’s Vision
Your child’s vision affects everything they do. From learning to read to connecting with friends on the playground, your child’s visual system can completely shape the way they go through life.
Children’s eye exams are key to ensuring that your child’s visual system is developing properly. Each time your child visits us we have the opportunity help them get the treatment they need when they need it!
Book an eye exam for your child today so they can get back to drawing, playing, and exploring with clear, comfortable vision.

When Should Your Child Get an Eye Exam?
Every child is different. When we first meet your child, we can guide you through how often your child should have their eyes examined based on your family history, their medical needs, and other factors.
Typically, we follow the recommended eye exam frequency set by the American Optometric Association (AOA), which suggests that children should:
- Have their first eye exam when they’re between 6 months and 1 year of age
- Have their second eye exam between 3 and 5 years of age
- Begin seeing their optometrist on a regular, annual basis from ages 6 to 17

What Do We Look for During Your Child’s Eye Exam?
Our priority during your child’s eye exam is to promote their eye health and general well-being in an environment where your child feels comfortable. We’ll always take the time to explain every step so your child can sit back, relax, and have fun!
During your child’s eye exam, we’ll perform a series of tests to assess your child’s eyes and check for common vision problems.
- Nearsightedness, or myopia, is a condition where your child is able to see clearly up close, but objects far away are blurry
- Farsightedness, or hyperopia, is a condition that means your child can see far away objects clearly, but things up close appear blurry
- Astigmatism is a common vision condition that makes everything look blurry, no matter the distance of the object
- Lazy eye, or amblyopia, occurs when one eye is weaker, causing the loss or lack of development of clear vision in one or both eyes
In addition to checking for the above eye conditions, we’ll also examine how your child’s eyes move and work together, how they are aligned, and how they react to changes in light.
After your child’s exam, we use the results of these tests to create a customized treatment plan tailored to your child. Whether it’s myopia control, vision therapy, or a new pair of eyeglasses, we’ll always give you multiple treatment options to choose from!
